The Concord Police Department received a call on Aug. 3 for a mother duck hit by a car, sitting on the roadside with her ducklings.
“When officers arrived, they found the determined mom still putting up a fight — and all of her ducklings safe and sound,” Concord PD said. “With a brief lull in calls for service, our officers stood guard to protect the little family until help could arrive.”
The ducks were found across the street from a local vet’s office. Veterinarian Olivia Winson gathered the ducks and contacted a local wildlife organization for treatment.
“Despite it being a Sunday afternoon, [she] stepped in on short notice to collect the ducks and ensure they made it to the appropriate wildlife organization for care,” Concord PD said. “A big thank you to Dr. Winson and her team for their compassion and quick action, and to our officers for protecting these feathered residents until help arrived.”
