BOSSIER CITY, La. – With the new school year underway, Bossier City Police are reminding drivers to put safety first in school zones. Officers are urging motorists to slow down, stay alert, and watch for pedestrians and school buses, particularly during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up hours.

Authorities stress that drivers must come to a complete stop when a school bus has flashing red lights and an extended stop arm, keeping at least 30 feet of distance.

Key Safety Reminders From Bossier City Police:

  • Slow Down: Obey school zone speed limits from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on school days.
  • Stay Alert: Watch for crossing guards, children, and pedestrians at all times.
  • No Cell Phone Use: Louisiana law prohibits the use of handheld devices while driving.
  • School Bus Safety: Stop in both directions when a school bus signals with flashing red lights and a stop arm.
  • Respect Crossing Guards: Follow their directions for the safety of all students.
