CHICAGO (WGN) — A man is dead and an investigation is underway following a hit-and-run crash on the city’s Southwest Side early Saturday morning.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Gage Park.

Officers say the victim, a 22-year-old man, was walking in a crosswalk in the area when a gray vehicle heading northbound disregarded a traffic signal and struck him.

WGN has obtained video that shows the victim was crossing the street when he saw the suspect car and tried to move out of the way.

Following the crash, the individual responsible fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Officers said the victim suffered significant injuries in the crash and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Police are now searching for the driver involved in the crash. No arrests have been made.
