Firefighters continue suppression efforts on Dragon Bravo Fire

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. (ABC4) — Despite Red Flag conditions yesterday, firefighters were able to make progress on containing the Dragon Bravo Fire near the Grand Canyon.

As of 9 a.m. Saturday, the fire is 36% contained and is at 141,147 acres. Firefighters dealt with wind gusts over 50 miles per hour yesterday, but most fire perimiter lines were held successfully. The northern part of the fire expanded east toward House Rock Valley but did not expand north.

Fire officials say the fire continues to be a full-suppression effort with 1,335 personnel on scene. Firefighters on the north end will continue patrolling fire lines to keep it from moving into the forest, where abundant fuels are present, and move it east toward more sparse fuel sources.

On the southwest portion of the fire, firefighters will continue to connect dozer lines coming down from Kaibab Lodge and to establish an anchor point at Crystal Canyon. Other areas of the fire continue to be patrolled as crews look for areas that can be put in a “controlled” status.

There is no Red Flag warning in place on Saturday for the Dragon Bravo Fire, but fire conditions will remain near critical status, with winds being calmer that yesterday. Smoke from the fire will remain visible near the South Rim of the canyon.

The North Rim remains closed for the rest of the 2025 season.
