Police responded around 1:30 a.m. to the 1000 block of West Grand Avenue on the report of domestic violence involving two child victims and an adult victim. Arriving officers “announced and identified themselves as police” before gunfire rang out in the direction of police, OPD said.
Officers were able to remove the victims from danger while the suspect, who was not identified by police, was arrested.
No one was injured in the incident.
Police said a firearm was recovered from the scene.
“I am grateful no one was hurt, and I commend our officers’ professionalism and courage in protecting the victims and our community,” Police Chief Floyd Mitchell said.
Anyone experiencing domestic violence is encouraged to contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-866-331-9474 or Oakland PD’s Domestic Violence Unit at 510-238-3256.
