Multiple Minneapolis residents were displaced on Saturday morning following an apartment fire that sent one person to the hospital.
According to the Minneapolis Fire Department, a fire was reported at 629 18th Street South around 4:54 a.m. at an apartment building, where heavy smoke and fire were found on the fourth floor.
Additional help was needed at the apartment, as fire crews needed assistance in evacuating residents with mobility issues from the building and in extinguishing the fire.
Minneapolis Fire said two residents were medically evaluated at the scene of the fire, while another was taken to the hospital due to a pre-existing medical condition.
Residents were given temporary shelter in a bus while firefighters continued to work the fire, which spread to the attic and into an adjacent building at 639 18th Street South.
Around 8:04 a.m., Minneapolis fire said the bulk of the fire was extinguished in both buildings and crews were working to find and extinguish remaining hotspots.
At this time, it is unknown how many residents have been displaced as a result of the fire. The Red Cross has been called to assist.
An investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
