LSU football player arrested, accused of aiding murder suspects

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A freshman football player at LSU turned himself in to authorities on Friday after being accused of criminal charges.

According to an affidavit, running back JT Lindsey reported to the LSU Police Department after learning of an arrest warrant on charges of two counts of accessory after the fact of second-degree murder.

The affidavit states that on May 21, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) responded to a deadly shooting in the 4000 block of Clark Street. During the investigation, Shemell Jacobs, 17, and Keldrick Jordan, 18, were named suspects in the shooting. Both were wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

Jacobs was believed to be on LSU’s campus on Aug. 4, prompting the U.S. Marshals Service and LSUPD to collaborate to find the suspect. Video surveillance placed Jacobs at Riverbend Hall. Around 6:15 p.m., authorities found Jacobs and Jordan in a campus apartment. Lindsey is a resident of the apartment where the men were found.

The affidavit reports that Jacobs had Lindsey’s LSU ID and was able to provide Lindsey’s PIN code, giving him access between the apartment and dorm buildings. Lindsey was seen with the two men in the dorm, dating back to July 24.

Further investigation revealed that Lindsey, the deceased victim, and the two men went to school together and were all friends.

During an interview with an associate, they advised APD that Lindsey reportedly knew Jacobs and Jordan were wanted for murder.

LSU Athletics Communications Director Michael Bonnette said the university is aware of the incident and won’t have any comment out of respect for the legal process.

Lindsey is an Alexandria native who was ranked a top running back in the class of 2025. He managed to secure the 2024 Warrick Dunn Award, which acknowledges the top junior or senior football player in Louisiana. He was ranked No. 148 nationally, No. 9 at his position, and No. 4 in Louisiana by On3.
