Man dies after driving into lake
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said a driver was killed Thursday night after they allegedly overcorrected on a turn and ended up in Horseshoe Lake.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident was reported around 8:32 p.m. by a person in a boat who found a vehicle in Horseshoe Lake, which appeared to have a person inside.
The car was located near a bridge off of Edgeton Road in Munson Township, about 4 miles south of Richmond.
When authorities arrived, they worked with residents who were already assisting in a rescue effort to get the driver out of the car.
The driver, 23-year-old Tate William Lehnen of Rice, was removed from the vehicle and brought to shore, where life-saving measures were attempted.
However, Lehnen was pronounced dead by paramedics.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said they believe Lehnen was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Impala when he overcorrected on a left-hand curve, crossed into the oncoming lane and drove into a steep ditch that led to Horeshoe Lake.
Lehnen was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed.
