Woman found unconscious, bleeding on Arkansas highway

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Helena-West Helena Police Department is trying to figure out what happened to a woman found unconscious and bleeding along Highway 49 two weeks ago.

According to police, just before midnight on July 22, a 911 dispatcher was on his way to work when he spotted Louise Perry lying on her side in the northbound lanes of 49 near Old Little Rock Road.

The dispatcher called for help. When officers arrived on the scene, they said Perry had shallow breathing and was bleeding from an injury to her shoulder and her left hand.

Perry was transported to a local hospital, but due to her injuries, was later airlifted to a Memphis hospital in critical condition.

Sally Mills said her sister was treated for a brain bleed and broken bones all over her body.

“She has rib fractures, shoulder fractures, elbows, and ankles,” said Mills. “She had hip surgery because she had a broken pelvis.”

Mills said she talked to her sister over the phone hours before she was found along the highway.

She said her sister told her to call the police because there were some men on her porch threatening her.

Mills said when police got to her sister’s Helena-West Helena home, the men on the front porch were already gone.

Mills said her sister was either thrown from a moving vehicle or was the victim of a hit and run, and is asking for the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible.

“There were some other people threatening her, too, some, I do not know. So, I am asking all witnesses in Helena-West Helena. Even if there are people they know who did it, they will come forward and tell the local Helena-West Helena Police Department the information,” said Mills. “I’m praying and hoping someone will come forward.”

Mills has been by her sister’s bedside for nearly two weeks and expressed gratitude for the dispatcher who found her.

Mills said her sister is having a hard time talking and hasn’t been able to tell her what happened.

Helena-West Helena detectives said the incident is still under investigation.

If you have any information that can help investigators, call Crime Stoppers at (406) 443-2000.
