The signal cabinet at the intersection of South 14th Street and South Clack Street has been under repair for just under a month after being damaged in a crash on June 16.
The collision caused significant damage to the signal cabinet (the component that controls the light) as well as the pedestrian pole, electrical service, and signal cables.
Although the City of Abilene maintains the lights, it requested assistance from TxDOT to expedite repairs. TxDOT added the project to an existing routine maintenance contract.
As part of the work, the signal cabinet is being relocated to a safer position farther from the roadway to reduce the risk of future damage.
While repairs are ongoing, the intersection is operating as an all-way (four-way) stop. TxDOT expects the work to be completed by the end of this week or early next.
