“Mainly it’s speeding and cell phone use in the school zone,” said Bossier Police officer Darron Kerry.
Officers say it’s not just dangerous, but now it’s also illegal. In Louisiana, holding your phone while driving in a school zone is against the law.
“You can’t have your phone in your hand. It’s hands-free in a school zone,” said Kerry.
The safety zones require your full attention. With reduced speed limits… And crossing guards directing traffic in school zones are back, and when it comes to school buses…
“We have a zero tolerance when it comes to the stop signs with the school buses and the crossing guards,” said Kerry.
That means serious consequences, as patrols are already ramped up this back-to-school season.
“We’ve actually increased our patrols through the school zones to bring more awareness to the general public,” said Kerry.
“Just slow down, take your time. Prepare yourself, leave a little bit early, knowing that you’re gonna have to go through these 25 and 15-mile-an-hour school zones,” said Kerry.
According to the Bossier City Police Department, the message from officers is clear: School zone hours in Bossier City are from 6 to 8 a.m. And 2 to 4 p.m. Every school day. Officers say safety starts with drivers.
