NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Former New Orleans police officer and judge Arthur Hunter announced at a news conference on Thursday, Aug. 7, that he is withdrawing from his campaign for mayor.

In the announcement, Hunter endorsed Royce Duplessis in his stead, speaking highly of his qualifications for the position.

“Today I am officially ending my campaign for mayor of New Orleans but let me be very clear. I’m stepping out the race, doesn’t mean I’m stepping away from the work, or even the campaign trail. I’ll still be here, side by side with Royce, fighting for a better future for our city,” said Hunter.
