GRANT PARISH, La. (WNTZ) — A joint investigation by the Grant Parish and Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Offices, along with Louisiana State Police, has led to the arrest of three men accused of attempting to smuggle contraband into a federal prison.

Authorities said the suspects were found with approximately $160,000 worth of cell phones and $15,000 worth of tobacco products. The incident also involved coordination with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which has placed detainers on the individuals, who were reportedly in the country illegally.

Ricardo Diazlegre, 29, of Redding, California, was arrested and charged with taking contraband into a penal institution.

Jose Francisco Reyes Chaves, 19, and Oliver Reyes Chaves, 25, both of Houston, Texas, were arrested and charged with taking contraband into a penal institution and resisting an officer.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be possible.
