METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a deputy reportedly fired his weapon during a traffic stop in Metairie on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

According to the JPSO, the incident began after deputies conducted a traffic stop on the Earhart Expressway, just east of Clearview Parkway, around 1:45 p.m.

Investigators say that after deputies removed the suspect from the vehicle and initiated a pat-down search, the suspect resisted and pulled a gun. A deputy then responded by pulling his service weapon and firing a single shot which did not hit the suspect.

After that, the suspect, who was later found to have been a convicted felon, was reportedly arrested and his firearm was recovered on scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
