Philadelphia to host free pickleball event on National Pickleball Day

(WPHL) — Philadelphia is celebrating National Pickleball Day with a day of free pickleball at Headhouse Plaza on Thursday, August 7.

The plaza, located at 2nd and South Streets, will host first-come, first-served open play on four available pickleball courts from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the restaurant Bridget Foy’s and gin company The Botanist. There will be pickle-themed food and cocktails available at the courts.

This is the second time Bridget Foy’s has hosted pickleball for National Pickleball Day. Last year’s menu featured pickle sliders, pickle deviled eggs, and pickle sub sandwich shorties.

The event is for all ages and is friendly to beginners as well as experienced players. There will be on-site communal paddles that players can borrow if they don’t have their own.

DJ John Gill will be playing a live set throughout the evening. Although the event is open to all, Bridget Foy’s Instagram recommends getting there early to sign up to play.
