A Sao Paulo, Brazil-bound couple had their checked bags searched by officers, who found that both contained heavy objects wrapped in white t-shirts inside large vacuum-sealed bags.
Officers allegedly found a black vacuum-sealed bag containing a brick-sized brownish tar substance, which tested positive for marijuana hashish, 37 pounds in total, inside the unidentified woman’s luggage. Officers inspecting the male’s luggage also confiscated large vacuum-sealed bags wrapped in white T-shirts, which allegedly contained a brick-sized brownish tar substance, similar to the substance found in the woman’s checked bag.
Various bags found inside the carry-ons tested positive for cocaine, ketamine, and ecstasy, in addition to marijuana. All told, CBP officers allegedly confiscated 72 pounds of hashish.
The arrest occurred on Thursday, July 24, according to a release by Chicago CBP officers.
The agency did not provide booking photos of the suspects.
CBP officers and agents seized 60,470 pounds of dangerous drugs at and between our nation’s air, sea, and land ports of entry last month, according to the release.
