The USGS said a 2.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Hillsdale, which is about 65 miles away from Trenton, a little after 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The epicenter of the quake was a home in Washington Township, according to the agency.
The earthquake could be felt as far south as Brooklyn, N.Y., and Newark, according to the USGS. One person reported feeling the quake as far north as Littlerest, N.Y., near Poughkeepsie.
Most residents reported feeling very light shaking, according to the USGS.
“At 12:11pm a 2.7 magnitude earthquake was detected in Hillsdale and it was felt in Leonia and surrounding communities. We have not received any reports of damage,” the Bergen County Communications Center said in a statement to PIX11 News.
