Woman injured, cat killed after shots fired into homes and vehicles in NE Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Gunfire erupted in a northeast Charlotte neighborhood over the weekend, injuring a woman, killing a family’s pet cat, and damaging homes and cars.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the shooting happened just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, on Olive Coast Street. Shots were fired into a home, hitting a 24-year-old woman who was taken to the hospital. Her current condition has not been released.

During the shooting incident, a pet cat named “Apollo” was also struck by the gunfire and died from its injuries. Authorities said six other people, three women and three men ranging in age from 22 to 64, were also inside at the time of the shooting but were not injured.

The bullets also hit several parked vehicles and even a neighboring house.

Police confirmed the shooter or shooters were not known to the victims, and the motive remains unclear. The case is being investigated as aggravated assault, vandalism, and animal cruelty.
