Lloyd Carlos, 32, was also charged with simple arson and obstruction of justice. His arrest came after a truck fire near St. Alphonsus Catholic School
Firefighters found a truck on fire next to a church building. After putting the fire out, the Baton Rouge Fire Department’s Fire Investigations Division was summoned to look into “the suspicious nature of the fire,” BRFD said.
As the investigation unfolded, Carlos was identified as a suspect. He is accused of stealing the truck in East Baton Rouge Parish and driving it to a convenience store.
Carlos allegedly took an ATM and stole from the convenience store. Investigators think he took the ATM to his home and cleaned it out before heading to the location near St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
He is accused of setting the truck on fire after wiping it down.
Carlos was already in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison in connection with the ATM theft and convenience store burglary when the additional charges were added on Aug. 1, BRFD said.
