The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, a 911 call was received, reporting that someone was yelling for help in the lake.
While on the phone, the caller reported that the person had gone underwater and hadn’t resurfaced. The sheriff’s office says emergency crews responded within minutes, but the rescue quickly transitioned into a search effort.
At around 10:45 p.m., the body of Alexzander Martin, 23, of Emporia, was recovered. The circumstances surrounding his drowning are under investigation.
The Madison Fire Department, Emporia Fire Department, Eureka Fire Department, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with rescue and recovery efforts.
