Edward Fonteneaux is now the head coach of Team USA Boxing Youth and Junior High Performance Team. We’ve introduced you to several of the athletes he’s coached over the years.
The Youth and Junior High Performance Team just returned from Germany, where they competed in the Brandenburg Cup, a prestigious international competition.
Eleven of 13 athletes left the competition with medals.
Fonteneaux started boxing after joining the military in the late 1990s. In 2017, he and his wife opened their own boxing gym, Fonteneaux Boxing Academy in Fayetteville, where they help young people grow and build their skills. He was named USA Boxing’s National Youth and Junior Coach, earlier this year.
Fonteneaux, who goes by Coach Font, says the win in Germany is a major accomplishment.
“I am truly proud of this team and staff,” he told CBS 17. “They worked tremendously hard together, and all the blood, sweat, and tears paid off. We had 11 out of 13 boxers medal, 7 gold, and 4 bronze. Well done.”
