Anwar McKenney, 43, is facing charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons in the death of Brandon Cayette, 40, of Donaldsonville.
Deputies were called to the scene around 5 p.m. on Aug. 2 after reports of a shooting outside a residence along Highway 405, near the Sportsman Lounge. APSO said that when deputies arrived, they found Cayette unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
APSO reported that the shooting started from a dispute about paid parking at the trail ride event. The argument escalated into a fight involving multiple people.
“McKenney and Cayette, who were acquaintances, became involved in the altercation when McKenney fatally shot Cayette,” APSO said.
Following the incident, McKenney fled the scene but was later taken into custody by detectives. APSO said that during questioning, he admitted to shooting Cayette during the altercation. He was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing. More details may be released at a later time.
