Slight drier weather leading to hot temperatures and low rain chances

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – After showers and thunderstorms rolled through the area during the afternoon and evening hours, a weak dry air front will bring slightly lower humidity to the area overnight. Skies clear of most cloud cover and temperatures settle in the low and mid 70s.

Sunday begins with quiet weather with sun and cloud cover mixing. Drier conditions will help temperatures warm to near 90 degrees by lunchtime, and the low and mid 90s during the afternoon hours. The lower humidity will keep the feels-like temperatures in check, though it will still be hot. A few coastal showers and thunderstorms will be possible, but rain chances will be hard to come by in most areas.

In the tropics, we are monitoring a developing area of low pressure along the Southeast coast that could develop through the next 24 hours into a tropical system, getting the name Dexter. The good news is that this will head out into open Atlantic and not affect any land areas. Elsewhere, we are tracking a few tropical waves that will head westward. In the next two weeks, they will approach the Southeast coast. Models do show some support for development in the next two weeks, but overall we are not concerned with development at this time.

The slightly drier air will linger Monday before humidity starts to creep back in. Temperatures back off to the lower 90s for afternoon temperatures with pop-up storm chances. Those increase a bit more towards the end of the week.
