According to a survey done by Mixbook, which spoke to just over 3,000 people, the pepperoni roll ranked 62nd in favorite summer foods. The survey also explained the history of the food, for those outside of West Virginia.
“Originating with West Virginia’s Italian-American coal miners, they’re a state icon, sold everywhere from bakeries to gas stations,” the survey said. “They’re perfect for summer because their grab-and-go nature suits picnics, hikes, or festivals, and they can be enjoyed warm or cold, making them a versatile snack for outdoor adventures.”
Other favorite summer foods from across the nation included peach cobbler, barbecue pulled pork, blueberry pie and more.
