CHP says a man was crossing the highway around 7:45 a.m., just south of the Atwater-Merced Expressway, when he was hit by a car. He was immediately transported by helicopter to a regional hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
CHP says the driver was going the speed limit but was unable to avoid the man crossing the road due to him “suddenly jumping in the lane of traffic.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information regarding the events leading up to it is asked to call and leave information for Investigating Officer Jesse Talbot at 209-356-6600.
