Man killed crossing highway in Merced County

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was killed trying to cross Highway 99 in Merced County Friday morning.

CHP says a man was crossing the highway around 7:45 a.m., just south of the Atwater-Merced Expressway, when he was hit by a car. He was immediately transported by helicopter to a regional hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

CHP says the driver was going the speed limit but was unable to avoid the man crossing the road due to him “suddenly jumping in the lane of traffic.”
