Homicide in downtown Austin leaves man dead, one in custody

AUSTIN (KXAN) — One man is dead and one person is in custody after a homicide in downtown Austin Saturday morning, according to the Austin Police Department.

APD’s Officer Aaron Townsend said the call came in about someone with injuries at the 800 block of Interstate Highway 35 Frontage Road at 3:20 a.m.

Officers arrived on the scene at 3:24 a.m. and located a man with “obvious” trauma to his body, according to Townsend. APD and Austin-Travis County EMS performed life-saving measures, and the man was transported to a nearby hospital.

At around 3:50 a.m., the man was pronounced deceased, according to APD.

Townsend said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

This is being investigated as Austin’s 36th homicide of 2025.
