New mobile scanner helps Colma PD identify shoplifting suspect

(KRON) – The Colma Police Department’s new mobile fingerprint scanner assisted in finding the real identity of a suspected shoplifter, according to authorities. 

Colma police officers were dispatched to a report of a theft at Kohl’s on El Camino Real at approximately 9:38 p.m. on Monday. En route, officers were informed that a woman had shoplifted and began walking toward El Camino Real.

Responding officers located the suspect near El Camino Real and Serramonte Boulevard.

Kohl’s loss prevention officers identified the woman as the shoplifter. According to police, she stole approximately $1,733.83 worth of merchandise. 

Police said that during her arrest, the suspect provided a false identity. With the use of the department’s new mobile fingerprint scanner, police discovered the suspect was 48-year-old San Leandro resident, Shannon Santos.

Colma PD said officers found burglary tools, suspected methamphetamine, metal knuckles and credit cards, and identification cards not in her name on Santos in her arrest.

Per Colma PD’s investigation, Santos was revealed to have a $50,000 felony warrant, a $30,000 felony warrant and two $5,000 misdemeanor warrants for her arrest.

Santos was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail for grand theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of metal knuckles, possession of burglary tools, misappropriation of lost property and her warrants.
