CHP targets armed Solano County drivers
(KRON) –The California Highway Patrol Solano Area office said its officers had a busy July in recovering more than a dozen illegal firearms from roadways.

The sixteen seized firearms included handguns, assault-style weapons and ghost guns, according to CHP Solano.

In a recent incident on Thursday, CHP said officers initiated a traffic enforcement stop at 3:38 a.m. on a white Chrysler 300 for speeding on Interstate 80 eastbound at Red Top Road. What officers spotted led to a double arrest, said authorities.

“Upon contact, the officers observed open containers of alcohol and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle,” said CHP in a social media post. “During the search, two illegal firearms were located (shown below).”

The driver and passenger were booked into the Solano County Jail. It is not clear yet what charges the yet unidentified pair face.

“These seizures were the direct result of proactive enforcement, dedicated patrol work, and community vigilance,” added CHP. “Each illegal gun taken off the streets represents a potential tragedy prevented, as fewer weapons in the wrong hands means a safer Solano County for all.”
