SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A 21-year-old has been arrested for allegedly attacking a coworker with a knife and stabbing him in the neck. The man told police he wanted to kill the victim because of “voices” and that he wanted to know what it “felt like.”
Jose Alfredo Ramirez-Porchas, 21, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for alleged aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony. He has not been formally charged by the district attorney’s office yet.
According to the arrest statement, University of Utah Police officers were contacted after a victim was stabbed in the neck by a coworker, later identified as Ramirez-Porchas. The victim and Ramirez-Porchas were work friends, and were in a custodial storage room when the incident happened.
Ramirez-Porchas allegedly stabbed the victim in the right side of the neck while they were in the custodial storage room. The victim had his back turned to Ramirez-Porchas and began running away after he was stabbed in the neck. Ramirez-Porchas pursued but fled after he could not catch up with the victim.
University of Utah Police officers were able to apprehend Ramirez-Porchas. They read the man his Miranda rights and asked him about what happened. He allegedly stated that he had decided he was going to kill his coworker the previous night, and brought a knife from home to commit the murder.
According to documents, Ramirez-Porchas further stated that he wanted to kill the victim “because of voices” and that he “wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone.” The arresting officer reported that Ramirez-Porchas said that if there was an opportunity, he would try to kill his coworker again.
He told police that the victim had “not done anything to motivate” him into murder, and police stated that he showed no remorse for planning and attempting to kill the victim. Ramirez-Porchas was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, where he is currently being held without bail.
