First reported by the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Cubs are acquiring Willi Castro from the Twins for yet-to-be-announced prospects.
Castro fills a need for the Cubs, who need a quality contributor who can come off the bench and play multiple positions while being at least league average in the batter’s box.
In 86 games with Minnesota, Castro has batted .245/.335/.407 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI while playing every position at least once, besides catcher and first base (he made one pitching appearance during a March 31 loss to the White Sox).
The Trade Deadline officially ends at 5 p.m. CT today.
