Report: Cubs trade for Pirates reliever Taylor Rogers

CHICAGO (WGN) — The Chicago Cubs have made another last-minute trade deadline addition, this time acquiring a relief pitcher from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs are trading for left-handed pitcher Taylor Rogers from the Pirates. What the Cubs are sending in return has yet to be disclosed.

Rogers, who is a 10-year MLB veteran, has appeared in 40 games this season and posted a 2.45 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 33 innings pitched.

According to Baseball Savant, Rogers relies heavily on a two-pitch mix that features a sinker and a sweeper, the sweeper being the more devastating offering of the two. Opponents are hitting .177 off his sweeper this season, a pitch Rogers uses 48.5% of the time.

The move comes moments after the club reportedly acquired super-utilityman Willi Castro from the Minnesota Twins.
