Police pursuit of ‘excessive speeds’ leaves suspect dead in Iron County

IRON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A police pursuit ended in the driver of the vehicle dying from his injuries Thursday.

Just after 2 p.m., deputies with the Iron County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on northbound I-15 at mile marker 45 near Kanarraville. Police say the driver failed to stop and officers initiated a pursuit.

The driver then struck another vehicle at “excessive speeds” while forcing other cars off the road. Officers performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle, according to the Iron Garfield Beaver Kane Critical Incident Task Force.

Police say the suspect was then life-flighted to St. George Regional Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. It is unclear what injuries the driver incurred.

The incident is currently being investigated by the task force.

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
