Pennsylvania unemployment claims down as U.S. hits snag

(WHTM) — Pennsylvania had fewer jobless claims last week, while the United States saw a marginal increase.

Statistics from the U.S. Department of labor reported 9,408 new unemployment claims in the state for the week of July 26, down by 920 claims from the previous week.

Applications for unemployment aid are viewed as representative of layoffs.

After six weeks of growth, U.S. unemployment hit a bump in the road. Jobless claims across the country went up by 1,000 people from the previous week for 218,000 new claims.

The department will release its July jobs report this Friday.
