MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced crews repaired the buckle in the right lane of U.S. 49 South in Madison County.

The lane between 1st Street and Petrified Forest Road has been reopened. MDOT removed traffic from the head-to-head configuration in the northbound lanes.

Officials said the road buckled due to the excessive heat. They said the left lane of U.S. 49 south will remain closed until the larger buckle is repaired in the coming weeks.

Drivers are advised to drive slow, anticipate changing traffic conditions on U.S. 49 south and be alert for roadside crews and signage.
