Chicago police said the incident unfolded just before 1:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the 3000 block of West 26th Street in Little Village.
According to police, the victim, a 69-year-old woman, was in the parking lot when she was struck by an unknown vehicle that officers said was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Following the crash, officers said the driver involved fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The woman suffered a skull fracture and injuries to her back in the crash and was later hospitalized in critical condition.
Chicago police are now asking for help in the search for the driver involved, but did not provide details on what type of vehicle was involved.
An investigation into the crash is now underway by the CPD Major Accident Investigation Unit at 312-745-4521.
