Kentucky’s Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Tyler Childers showcased his new album, “Snipe Hunter,” at a nostalgic roadside attraction in a secret pop-up show on Wednesday evening, July 30.
Fans got an email last week announcing the pop-up show at a secret location somewhere in Kentucky. Only around 500 tickets were sold using a lottery system, and the lucky few found out they were headed to Dinosaur World the day of the show.
Dinosaur World is one of Cave City’s many tourist attractions, transporting visitors back to prehistoric times.
“Hello, Dinosaur World,” Childers exclaimed. “Let me hear your favorite dinosaur noise.”
The crowd roared, literally.
“That was really scary,” he joked.
His longtime band, the Food Stamps, even dressed as Jurassic Park characters. Childers sported a red ascot reminiscent of Alan Grant.
“I’d never gotten to come here as a kid, because who has the time? You know, adult things to do,” Childers joked, recalling the time he went for the first time in 2020. “We got here and went to the gift shop and got our tickets, and I was like, ‘I’ll have one adult and one child.’ And the lady who was working there was just like, ‘Yeah, never heard that one before.’ She had the hiccups! I was surprised a person could have the hiccups in a place this scary, because of all the dinosaurs.”
Childers said that Wednesday’s show was for everyone in the crowd like him, who grew up passing the giant T-Rex on I-65 but whose moms always said they couldn’t stop in to see it up close.
This marks the second pop-up Childers has hosted since the album’s July 25 release, and there’s no telling what tricks he has left up his sleeve.
