According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, around 11:06 a.m., deputies, Byron Fire/EMS, the Byron Police Department, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources were called to the 11000 block of N. Illinois Route 2 for a two-vehicle accident.
Investigators concluded that a red Chevrolet S10, operated by Brian Woods, 59, of Oregon, was headed northbound on Route 2 and attempted a left turn into a field entrance, turning directly into the path of the other car.
The pickup was hit by the Volkswagen, which was traveling southbound.
Both Woods and the passenger of the Volkswagen were rushed to a local hospital, although authorities said their injuries were not life-threatening.
Woods was issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and improper left turn into oncoming traffic.
