ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY) — St. John Baptist Church, an over-century-old historical building, on Big Four Corners Road in Four Corners has completely burned down according to fire officials.
According to authorities, just after 2 p.m., neighbors heard a loud sound they suspected to be lightning and immediately called emergency services when they saw the roof of the church had caught fire.
Fire officials said when they arrived 50-70% of the structure was already engulfed in flames.
From around 2:30-8 p.m., officials with over 10 agencies from St. Mary, St. Martin and Lafayette Parishes worked to extinguish the flames. Officials have since declared the structure a total loss.
Officials said no injuries have been reported in the fire.
