ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Oscar Martinez, 23, after he strangled a woman, according to court records.

On July 30, around 1 a.m., officers were called to the 5100 block of East State for an unknown issue. A caller reported hearing screaming coming from an apartment inside the complex.

The victim told authorities she was strangled and held down on the ground. She had visible injuries, police reported.

The woman was able to break free from Martinez and run to a nearby gas station, while the suspect went toward a nearby car wash, according to court records.
