On July 30, around 1 a.m., officers were called to the 5100 block of East State for an unknown issue. A caller reported hearing screaming coming from an apartment inside the complex.
The victim told authorities she was strangled and held down on the ground. She had visible injuries, police reported.
The woman was able to break free from Martinez and run to a nearby gas station, while the suspect went toward a nearby car wash, according to court records.
Officials found Martinez near the car wash in a vehicle, which resulted in the suspect getting out and running away from officers.
He was eventually tackled into a ditch and taken into custody.
Martinez is charged with domestic battery that caused bodily harm, aggravated domestic battery that caused strangulation and resisting an officer.
