This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — One person is dead after a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist in South Jordan.

According to Master Officer Shaun Becker, with the South Jordan Police Department (SJPD), a motorcyclist has passed away after a fatal collision with an SUV. The collision occurred at South Jordan Parkway and Redwood Road around 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old male who was riding the motorcycle was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Law enforcement did perform first aid on scene.

Master Officer Becker said speed was likely a factor in the accident, but it is not clear whether the speed came from the motorcyclist or the SUV driver. Officers are still conducting their investigation and have drones in the area.

The SUV driver was reportedly uninjured. They remained on scene and is fully cooperating.

SJPD closed traffic in both directions on Redwood Road from South Jordan Parkway to 9650 South. They have since reopened southbound traffic. As of 9:04p.m., they estimate northbound traffic will reopen in the next hour.

According to Master Officer Becker, this is the second fatal motorcyclist accident that SJPD has responded to within the last few months. Additionally, while units were responding to this fatal accident, they received a call about an additional motorcycle accident. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in that incident.

Master Officer Becker stressed the importance of taking motorcycle classes if you are going to drive one and for all drivers to stay vigilant when driving.
