The City of Merkel is planning to make some changes when it comes to where you can park your mobile home. Recently, the city sent out a public notification to all its citizens regarding those proposed changes, which has caused some concern regarding their homes. Some Merkel residents have even taken to social media to gain more information regarding the proposed ordinances and whether they would be affected.
According to city leadership, the plan for these proposed changes is to no longer allow any new mobile homes to be placed on the majority of the properties inside Merkel’s city limits. But what does that mean for those who currently live in these manufactured homes within Merkel? City manager for Merkel, Matthew Hitt, expanded on that concern.
“We’re removing the overlays, reverting it back to its original single-family housing. Then anyone who’s living in a mobile home in that currently will be grandfathered in, they’ll be taken care of, just won’t allow new manufactured homes to move into those areas,” Hitt assured.
Hitt also went on to tell our studios that the City of Merkel, along with the city’s planning and zoning department, will be holding a special public meeting regarding the proposed ordinance changes for anyone in the public to gain more information and ask any questions regarding the changes. That meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 6, at 1:00 p.m. at 111 Taylor Street in Merkel. Additional public discussion on the proposed changes will be held at the same location on the same day at 6:00 p.m. during Merkel’s regularly scheduled city council meeting.
