29-year-old Jeffery Allen was charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of aggravated criminal property damage.
Deputies responded to a home in connection with a shooting around 9 a.m. in the 9300 block of Bimini Drive, after the shot spotter system heard the shots nearby. When deputies arrived, they found that the victim had been shot at but was not injured from the gunfire. However, the victim’s home was hit by a bullet.
According to an affidavit, the victim was getting out of his car when Allen approached his car wearing a black hoodie. The Baton Rouge man proceeded to point a revolver at the victim and started shooting. The victim said that he saw Allen’s face and knew him from previous interactions in the area.
During the investigation, deputies say that a white Chevrolet Silverado was spotted by a license plate reader and was the only truck in the area at the time of the shooting.
Authorities say that multiple witnesses saw the 29-year-old walk from Ben Burge Park on Antigua Drive to the victim’s house on Bimini Drive. Allen was also seen by witnesses walking back to the park and getting into the Chevrolet truck, leaving the scene.
Officials were able to find Allen through a law enforcement database and identified him as the owner of the vehicle.
The Baton Rouge man was placed in a lineup and was pointed out to be the shooter.
