On Monday night, a deputy was patrolling the area around the hotel when he saw a man sitting in a Honda acting unusually. The deputy determined these were apparent signs of being under the influence.
After speaking with the man, identified as 39-year-old Rene Echeverria, the deputy noticed what appeared to be a suspected controlled substance on the floorboard. The man said he was waiting for his friend, who went to a nearby store. After getting permission to search the vehicle, additional suspected controlled substances were found.
While searching the car, Echeverria’s friend came back. He was identified as 33-year-old Victor Lopez, and had signs of intoxication.
He admitted to consuming “six beers” and was also searched. The deputy opened his wallet to see a white powder “puffed into the air.” Both individuals were detained.
Both Echeverria and Lopez were charged with public intoxication and possession of controlled substances.
