SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Brixton, a beloved therapy dog that works in schools, hospitals and airports around San Francisco, recently received a tough diagnosis. What was initially thought to be just a minor stomach problem turned out to be irritable bowel disease.

In Brixton’s case, the condition was left untreated as a result of a misdiagnosis, and it has now developed into early-stage lymphoma.

“It’s an understatement to say that it’s been a devastating development, but one that I have decided to fight and remain faithful that I will win to bring even more smiles to all the people that need it most,” read a GoFundMe set up on Brixton’s account.

The GoFundMe is seeking to raise funds to assist with Brixton’s veterinary bills which according to the fundraiser, have been “astronomically astounding and continue to be.”

“I desperately need your help in trying to fight this difficult disease,” the GoFundMe states. “If you have ever encountered and enjoyed my special brand of puppy love, I hope you’ll consider helping me out in this special time of need so that I can continue to bring that special sweet love for a long time to come.”
