PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Newport man is facing several charges after allegedly robbing a grocery store at gunpoint on Sunday.

According to Newport police, officers responded to the South Beach Grocery store just after 3:45 p.m. after receiving a report that a man had robbed a clerk at gunpoint. Police were initially unable to locate the suspect.

“Review of surveillance footage showed a lone male subject walk into the store with his face covered with a makeshift mask. The suspect pointed a handgun at the clerk, demanded the money from the register and a specific pack of cigarettes, before fleeing on foot,” police said.

Around 8 a.m., 31-year-old Josh Devries was spotted near Hwy 101 and SW Angle Street, where he was arrested and charged with robbery, theft, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon. He was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail.

The incident is still under investigation.
