FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The man who was pulled from a northeast Fort Wayne pond Monday died, according to a press release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Indiana Conservation Officers are now investigating what led to his death, which was deemed a drowning.
Emergency crews responded around 3:30 p.m. to a pond on Fieldbrook Pass in a neighborhood off Stellhorn Road. The initial report came from a neighbor who said she saw the man calling for help in the pond.
Tim Maloney, assistant chief of special operations with the Fort Wayne Fire Department, said the rescue took 30 minutes because the man was under water when authorities got there. According to the DNR, the man was found in 30 feet of water.
He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. The victim was identified Tuesday as 45-year-old Aaron Graves.
