According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the change affects the ramp from westbound I-70 to westbound U.S. 40.
Crews will remove the existing pavement and start construction on a reworked interchange.
The recommended detour is State Road 227 (exit 153) to eastbound I-70 to westbound U.S. 40 (exit 156A).
The closure is scheduled to last through September.
The new U.S. 40 interchange will switch from a diamond interchange to a single-lane roundabout with the removal of the current loop ramps. This will eliminate weaving movements from entrance and exit ramps. The reconstructed interchange is slated for completion by late 2027.
Drivers will see some lane restrictions this week as part of the project.
The schedule depends on the weather and may shift based on the conditions outside.
The work is part of the Revive I-70 project aimed at improving safety and capacity on I-70 from the Cambridge City area to the Indiana/Ohio state line.
