FARMERVILLE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — Four people have been arrested in connection with the death of a newborn in Union Parish, authorities said.
The following suspects were arrested for the incident:
| Name | Age | Origins | Charge | Bond Amount |
| Lindsey Nicole Washington | 21 | Marion, La. | Second-Degree Murder | $750,000 |
| Lee Dell “Pop” Nation, Jr. | 69 | Farmerville, La. | Second-Degree Murder | $750,000 |
| Evelyn Nation | 74 | Farmerville, La. | Negligent Homicide | $150,000 |
| Elaine Nation | 60 | Farmerville, La. | Negligent Homicide | $150,000 |
According to authorities, the investigation began in February when emergency medical personnel responded to a home in Farmerville after a report that a woman had given birth in the bathroom. Paramedics arrived to find the newborn child unresponsive with its head submerged in the toilet, authorities said.
The child was taken to a local hospital, where it was pronounced dead.
Investigators said statements made by those at the scene conflicted with dispatch call logs and emergency response timelines, and that the newborn was left submerged for several minutes before help was called. Investigators also said no one at the scene attempted to remove the child from the toilet or provide aid before paramedics arrived.
The death was ruled a homicide, with the cause listed as drowning.
The case was initially investigated by the Farmerville Police Department before being turned over to the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office.
All four suspects were booked into the Union Parish Detention Center without incident. The incident remains under investigation.
