KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person was killed and three people were injured after the roof of a Family Dollar partially collapsed Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Fire Department says that around 2:45 p.m., units were sent to the Family Dollar at 3726 Broadway Boulevard on a reported building collapse. When they arrived, they found that the front facade of the building had collapsed.

At this time, KCPD, the Kansas City Fire Department and other emergency response crews are still on the scene and continuing their search and rescue efforts.

KCFD confirmed that a 68-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and three others were injured in the collapse. One of the injured victims, a 50-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital, where her injuries were updated to critical later on Sunday.

The two other injured victims were evaluated at the scene and refused further treatment.

Additionally, the incident has caused Broadway to be closed from 36th Street to 38th Street while the investigation continues. KCFD said that lane closures should be expected until the building can be secured.

KCPD has now taken over the investigation.
